PDF/A tampering

Tampering with a PDF file that you send out is extremely easy and happens a lot more than you think! In a recent project, a financial services company checked 100 salary statements from a large HR-temp agency and found that 13 out of the 100 were tampered with!

These digital files are often saved in PDF/A format. Upon opening the file it displays a blue bar at the top that says: “This file claims compliance with the PDF/A standard and has been opened as read-only to prevent modification“.

When faced with fraud and receive a claim, you have to be able to prove that you sent another version  and that was the original. Second, you have to prove that your copy really is a copy from the original!
