Self-Sovereign Identity solutions are interoperable because they are based on open standards.
Open standards
Interoperability is a critical succesfactor for adoption. Therefor, proper SSI solutions adhere to open standards. Specifically to the W3C standards being drawn up by W3C working groups and the Decentralized Identity Foundation (DIF), such as:
- Decentralized Identifiers (DID)
- Verifiable Credentials (VC)
- Confidential Storage (EDV)
- Presentation Exchange (PE)
Open source components
Another critical succesfactor for adoption is the creation of open source for key SSI-components. Open source provides the required transparency for trust, enables other developers to build solutions and prevents vendor lock-in.
